tvN's mystery crime series "Signal," starring Lee Je Hoon, Kim Hye Soo and Jo Jin Woong, is set to return in a different format.

Following the rumors about the drama's second season, media outlet Star Today cited that the 2016 mega-hit K-drama is set to be produced as a webtoon.

With this, the upcoming digital comics will be published through various platforms such as Naver and Kakao.

"Signal" is not the only series that will be adapted as a webtoon. Park Seo Joon's popular series "Fight For My Way'" as well as "Healer," "On Your Wedding Day," and "Bad Guys" will also be presented as a webtoon.

Because of its unique and compelling storyline, viewers got so hooked on the mystery crime series, making the drama achieve soaring ratings.

At the time, Nielsen Korea noted that the finale episode of "Signal" garnered a 15 percent viewership rating.

K-Drama "Signal" follows the story of Park Hae Young, played by Lee Je Hoon, who witnessed a kidnapping incident when he was a child.

Fifteen years later, he became a skilled criminal profiler at the police force, solving cold cases. The rookie works under task force team leader Cha Soo Hyun (Kim Hye Soo).

However, he mysteriously connected to the past through a walkie-talkie and was able to communicate with a detective named Lee Jae Han, played by Jo Jin Woong.

Hae Young was clueless that Jae Han was also Soo Hyun's mentor who suddenly disappeared while solving a case.

"Signal" illustrates how the trio attempts to work out unfinished high-profile cases both in the past and present.

Just in case you are curious about Lee Je Hoon's drama, you can still catch it through Netflix with a total of 16 episodes.

Various media outlets claim that the popular tvN mystery-crime series is set to return for the second season.

Interestingly, "Signal" screenwriter Kim Eun Hee addressed the rumor and spoke about the possibility of the drama having a sequel.

In an interview with Spotify News to the veteran screenwriter in July, she expressed her plans to release a follow-up season apart from "Kingdom." She mentioned that she wanted to write the second season of "Signal" before retiring.

In addition, the writer also shared that she has a lot of "motivation" to release "Signal 2."

Meanwhile, "Taxi Driver" star also spoke about his thoughts regarding the sequel, saying he is looking forward to season 2.

"I think it would be difficult to do it this year because the cast is all busy, but from what I know, 'Signal 2' is being produced. I'm waiting for it too."

Although there is no confirmation regarding the release date, it is safe to say that fans would get to see the lead stars reprise their roles as police officers.
