The project is set during the 1453 coup led by Prince Suyang and will be directed by filmmaker Kim Hong Sun. According to entertainment reports, Jung is currently in talks to portray Han Myeong Hoe, a powerful political figure from the Joseon era.

The announcement quickly drew comparisons to the recent blockbuster film "The King's Warden," which surpassed 16 million viewers and received praise for actor Yoo Ji Tae's portrayal of the same historical figure.

Entertainment outlet Koreaboo first reported on the growing criticism surrounding the casting news, noting that many online commenters questioned whether Jung was the right fit for the role.

Comments shared from the Korean online community theqoo, reflected the negative response from some viewers.

One commenter criticized the actor's abilities by writing, "But he can't act...why would they use him?" Another user questioned the casting choice, stating, "Jung Woo Sung? For the role of Han Myeong Hoe? Did they not have another actor? Why?"

Some reactions focused specifically on Jung's acting style and delivery as one commenter wrote, "Practice your acting, ajussi." Additional criticism centered on the growing number of historical projects following the commercial success of "The King's Warden."

A netizen expressed frustration with the trend, saying, "Similar movies are coming out endlessly ever since 'The King's Warden' success."

Another commenter compared Jung's reported casting to Yoo Ji Tae's previous performance, writing, "Stop using the same storyline...seeing Yoo Ji Tae show off a refreshing new image was enough."

Further criticism targeted Jung's suitability for a traditional historical production as another user commented, "Why would you use him if he can't act? His diction sucks, too. How is he going to pull a traditional style film?"

The backlash comes as Jung continues to face scrutiny following recent personal controversies, which have also fueled discussion online. Despite the criticism, the actor remains one of South Korea's most recognizable film stars, and no official confirmation regarding his casting has yet been announced by the production team.
