'Kill Bok Soon' Surpasses Over 18 Million Hours of Viewing Time

"Kill Bok Soon," starring Jeon Do Yeon, ranked first on Netflix Global Top 10 Movies Non-English Category.

According to the news cited by a media outlet on April 5, the thriller film is one of the currently most-watched on the online streaming giant.

"Kill Bok Soon" has surpassed 18 million hours of viewing time three days after its release.

Aside from Korea, it also topped in some countries namely Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Canada, and New Zealand. It also entered the top 10 list in 82 countries.

"Kill Bok Soon" features the inevitable confrontation, in which Bok Soon, a legendary assassin in the contracting industry, is on verge of renewing her contract with the company.

Veteran actress Jeon Do Yeon, who plays the leading role, played a character who is agonizing between a killer and a mother. She showcased delicate acting through her return to the movie industry.

Netflix's 'Kill Bok Soon' Controversy

On April 2, the film created a buzz after it was dragged into a controversy. It has been said that some scenes exhibited and are related to the controversial Korean online community Ilbe, which is known for its right-wing political views, misogyny, racism, and hate speech toward small groups.

In particular, viewers are pointing to Director Byun Sung Hyun as the man behind the released scenes. He was already embroiled in an Ilbe issue before through his movie "The Merciless" due to his inappropriate remarks.

New Netflix Entertainment Programs Set to Premiere This Year

Meanwhile, following the ongoing success of "Kill Bok Soon," Netflix is preparing for more exciting shows to be released this 2023.

Producer-directors Jeong Hyo Min, Lee Eun Kyung, Park Jin Kyung, Jeong Jong Yeon, and Kim Jae Won attended the Netflix event last April 4 in Seoul. During their media interview, the creative heads spoiled the fans on what programs to anticipate in the upcoming months.

According to them, they will release different entertainment shows namely "Single's Inferno Season 3," "The Devil's Plan," "19/20," "Risqué Business," "Zombieverse," and "Siren: Survive the Island."

In addition, due to other circumstances, Netflix will cast non-celebrities to participate in the shows.
