YG Entertainment Responds to News About BLACKPINK Jennie’s Appearance in Marvel Film

Following the rumors regarding BLACKPINK's Jennie joining a Marvel Cinematic Universe project, her agency, YG Entertainment, has clarified the news.

Amid her successful career in music, the K-pop star also ventured into acting. While her recently-released drama "The Idol" continues to gain the public's attention, the South Korean beauty is rumored to join an upcoming Marvel film.

Following this, her company released its official stance.

BLACKPINK Jennie's Agency Denies MCU Offer

Amid the news regarding BLACKPINK Jennie's MCU appearance, YG Entertainment officially addressed the report through a brief statement. As cited by a media outlet, the label denied that she would become a part of the Hollywood project.

"It is not true that Jennie received an offer to star in a Marvel project," YG Entertainment explained.

To recall, BLACKPINK's fans (BLINKs) were delighted to hear the news regarding a rumored upcoming acting project for the K-pop star.

Per reports, the 27-year-old star was selected to portray one of the members of Marvel's Asian superhero group, Team Agents of Atlas, marking her MCU debut.

In particular, BLACKPINK's Jennie was rumored to play the role of Seol Hee, a.k.a. Luna Snow, a character in the video game, Marvel Super War in 2020, which was voiced by f(x)'s Luna.

On the other hand, the singer-actress is making a name for herself on the small screen through HBO's "The Idol," alongside Lily Rose-Depp, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, and more. 

In the series, BLACKPINK's Jennie, who is also credited as "Jennie Ruby Jane," takes on the role of Dyanne, one of the main characters and Jocelyn's (Lily Rose-Depp) backup dancer and close friend.

South Korean Stars Who Made Their Hollywood Debut

Apart from the BLACKPINK member, a number of South Korean stars have made a mark in Hollywood through their successful debuts.

One of the recent was Park Seo Joon, who joined "The Marvels," a follow-up film to "Captain Marvel."

The public speculates that he will portray the role of Prince Yan, Captain Marvel, or Carol Danvers' (Brie Larson) love interest.

In addition to the list of South Korean stars who made their debut in Hollywood, Ma Dong Seok, also known as Don Lee, joined the 2019 Marvel hit movie "Eternals," together with Angelina Jolie, and played the role of Gilgamesh.

Adding to the list is award-winning South Korean star Lee Byung Hun.

While fans know him as the Frontman in Netflix's "Squid Game," the actor also appeared in Hollywood projects like the 2009 film "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," and played the character of powerful villain Storm Shadow.

Moreover, he also joined the cast of the movie's 2013 sequel, "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," as well as "Terminator Genisys," "Misconduct," and more.
