In an exclusive report cited by a local media outlet Star News, the actor is the latest addition to the highly-anticipated sequel.

Netflix Responds to Im Siwan Joining 'Squid Game 2' Cast Lineup

Following the confirmation of the hit Netflix K-drama, officials are gearing for the second season, starting with an interesting cast lineup.

Further, as mentioned by the outlet, Im Siwan is confirmed to headline the series. As for his role, drama officials and Netflix are yet to announce his character.

Amid the news regarding Im Siwan's appearance in "Squid Game 2," Netflix Korea has responded and clarified the news regarding the cast lineup.

As mentioned by the streaming giant to Maeil Business Daily Star Today, they can't confirm the casting news as of the moment.

"Please understand that we cannot currently confirm the casting for 'Squid Game' season 2," Netflix said.

To recall, director Hwang Dong Hyuk previously mentioned that Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun will reprise their roles as Seong Gi Hoon and the Frontman.

The mysterious salesman, played by Gong Yoo, will also appear in "Squid Game" season 2.

However, as for the returning and new cast members, Netflix is tight-lipped about the casting.

In season 1, the 9-episode thriller-mystery K-drama focuses on 456 debt-ridden participants, who aim to take home the whopping cash prize of 5.6 billion KRW.

The first season showcases an amazing cast lineup, headlined by Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon, and Wi Ha Joon, as well as Heo Sung Tae, Golden Globes winner Oh Young Soo, and more.

As soon as "Squid Game" was released on Netflix, the show instantly became a huge hit globally.

The streaming giant shared that the Korean drama was streamed in 111 million households around the world, and became the highest-viewed Netflix original series ever.

What to Expect in 'Squid Game 2'

As mentioned, three returning cast members will appear in "Squid Game 2." Netflix also introduced the new creepy robot who will join the sequel.

Instead of Young-hee, who is dressed in an orange jumper dress and has a pigtail hairstyle, her boyfriend, Cheol-su, will be participating in the upcoming quest.

Meanwhile, Netflix shared that they will begin filming this summer after completing the casting work.

As for the "Squid Game 2" release date, their goal is to premiere it in 2024, three years after season 1 was released.
