Former THE BOYZ member Joo Haknyeon publicly denied recent prostitution allegations and accused his former agency of fabricating a scandal to justify his contract termination, in a personal statement released June 22 via social media.

"I became a sex crime suspect overnight. If I don't reveal the truth, I'll be remembered as a criminal forever," the 25-year-old wrote, describing the past week as a "deliberate character assassination."

The controversy began after Japanese media outlet Shukan Bunshun contacted Haknyeon's agency, ONE HUNDRED, regarding a photo of the idol with adult film actress Asuka Kirara.
According to Haknyeon, discussions with the agency were underway about how to address the issue.
However, on June 17, he stated that the company abruptly demanded he terminate his contract and pay a penalty exceeding ₩2 billion (approximately $1.45 million).
When he refused to sign, ONE HUNDRED announced his departure the next day. That same day, reports began surfacing online accusing Haknyeon of engaging in prostitution—a claim he denies completely.
"Articles about me meeting an AV actress and then engaging in prostitution came out in succession—before the Bunshun article was even published," Haknyeon wrote. "Everything happened within two days.
It felt like someone was fabricating the reason for contract termination."
The scandal intensified on June 21 when Shukan Bunshun released photos of Haknyeon and Kirara embracing on a street in Tokyo.
Kirara responded on social media, saying, "I have never received money for sex in my life," and explained that the photo was taken and sold by a third party without consent.
In his statement, Haknyeon also announced plans to file civil and criminal lawsuits against those responsible for the reports and the defamation, including the journalist involved.

He criticized the "damage to public image" clause in his exclusive contract, calling it "vague and subjective."
"I'm not proud of my actions, and I deeply apologize to the fans and my team," Haknyeon said. "But I have never committed any of the crimes listed in that contract clause, including drugs, assault, or prostitution."
He went on to acknowledge his May 30 actions—meeting privately with Kirara—as "careless," but not criminal. "I deeply and sincerely reflect on this and will keep it in my heart for the rest of my life," he said.
ONE HUNDRED had initially announced on June 16 that Haknyeon was suspending activities for "personal reasons," followed by his departure two days later.
The agency has not issued further comments regarding Haknyeon's allegations.
The case has triggered significant backlash online and divided public opinion. While some criticize Haknyeon's judgment, others argue the agency acted prematurely and possibly vindictively.
"It's scary to go up against a large company as an individual," Haknyeon wrote. "However, I will not back down for the sake of those who still believe in me."
