New York Asian Film Festival Announces 2014 Lineup

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema, in conjunction with Japan Society, have announced the lineup for the 13th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF). The full lineup for the festival will be announced by The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Subway Cinema on May 30.

NYAFF 2014 will feature over 20 celebrity guests and filmmakers who are traveling from Korea, Taiwan, Japan, China, Australia, and Hong Kong to attend one of largest festivals dedicated to Asian film in the United States.

The festival will open with the International Premier of the Hong Kong film “Overheard 3”, which is the conclusion of the popular franchise.

NYAFF 2014 will close with the Korean film “Manshin:Ten Thousand Spirits." Directed by Park Chan Wook's brother Park Chan Kyung, “Manshin:Ten Thousand Spirits” is an exploration into the story of Korean shaman Kim Keum Hwa. “Manshin” explores the role of shamanism in the modern development of Korea. Actress Moon So Ri (Venus Talk) will be present at the screening, which is presented with support by the Korean Cultural Service of New York.

As previously reported, NYAFF 2014 will feature Korean Actor In Focus:Lee Jung Jae. The retrospective focus will include screenings of the films “The Face Reader”, “Il Mare”, and “New World”. Lee Jung Jae will be present at the screening of 2013 film “The Face Reader”.

Sol Kyung Gu, who recently received the Best Actor award at the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards for the film “Wish," will share the honor of receiving the Star Asia Award along with Hong Kong's Queen of Comedy Sandra Ng. Sol Kyung Gu will be present at the screening of “Cold Eyes."

In addition, the inaugural award, The Celebrity, will be presented to Korean actor Park Joong Hoon. Park Joong Hoon has been a top leading man in Korean film since the 1980s, having lead films such as Lee Myun Se's “Nowhere to Hide”.

Other notable Koreans who will be special guests at the New York Asian Film Festival include director Lee Su Jin of Han Gong Ju and director Shin Yeon Shick of the controversial avante garde film “Rough Play."

 Kdramastars will be providing coverage of NYAFF 2014, including reviews of the films which will be screening at the festival.
