Only a day ago it was reported that singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong would defer his mandatory military duty until after the birth of his child in September.

But on May 5 the Korean media outlet Osen reported that Kim is set to begin his mandatory military duty on May 12. He will receive five weeks of training for new recruits in the city of Goyang before getting his placement orders. His expected date of discharge from military duty is Feb. 11, 2017.

His last petition for deferment was filed in April. He asked for a deferment so that he could settle some personal matters, but now it seems that he can no longer delay his enlistment.

Kim's agency, Key East Entertainment would not comment on the story except to say that Kim wishes to enter the military quietly.

That will be difficult since Kim Hyun Joong's news has been associated with scandals since last August when his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child filed four charges of assault against him. He denied the charges and said they only had one physical fight, which was mutual. Although Kim's ex-girlfriend, identified only as Choi, withdrew the charges after he publicly and privately apologized, he did have to pay a $5,000 charge for the one documented incident of injuries.

The couple reconciled briefly, vacationed together, and then broke up. In January she announced that she was pregnant. Kim and his family expressed an interest in being involved in the child's life.

Then Choi filed two lawsuits.

On May 4, the day before Kim received his marching orders, fans learned that Choi filed charges against more than 100 netizens for making malicious comments about her and her unborn child.

On May 4, it was also revealed she had filed a lawsuit against Kim Hyun Joong asking for $1.48 million dollars.

His legal representative Lee Jae Man told the Korean media outlet Newsen that she was suing for damages, citing her pregnancy and psychological harm from her relationship with Kim Hyun Joong. The charges were filed through the Seoul Central District Court.

Key East Entertainment also commented on the situation, confirming the lawsuit.

"The news about the suit is true," said the Key East representative. "We have to talk to the legal representative."

The scandals may continue to affect Kim's career. He won praise for his role in the drama "Inspiring Generation" shortly before the scandal broke out. He has not acted since.
