First ever Korean Movie to be nominated at the Oscars: “PARASITE” (Photo : instagram)

Last January 13th the nominees for year's Academy Awards more commonly known as the Oscars awards were announced. Everyone is happy to see that the Korean movie "Parasite" made history by becoming the first-ever Korean movie to be nominated for Best Picture and the 11th non-English best picture nominee overall.

The thrilling comedy movie will compete for the Oscars Best Picture awards against eight other films to be mentioned, "Ford V Ferrari," "The Irishman," "Jojo Rabbit," "Joker," "Little Women," "Marriage Story," "1917," and "Once Upon A Time...In Hollywood."

Director Bong Joon-ho, Parasite's acclaimed director has also become the very first ever Korean director in history to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Directing and Original Screenplay. The nominated director has made a lot of movies that have gone popular in the movie industry and the film lovers absolutely love his creations. Some of his creations are including Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006), and Snowpiercer (2013).  In addition he also also wrote and directed the Netflix film starring Tilda Swinton titled "Okja".

"Parasite" was also nominated in three other categories which is the Film Editing for Yang Jin-mo, Production Design for Lee Ha-jun and Cho Won-woo, and International Feature Film. So it is a total of six nomination for the Parasite's Oscar nominations

The star cast of the thrilling black comedy  movie "Parasite" are, Song Kang-ho (A Taxi Driver), Jang Hye-jin (Mothers), Lee Sun-kyun (Jo Pil-Ho: The Dawning Rage), Cho Yeo-jeong (Casa Amor: Exclusive For Ladies), Lee Jung-eun (Let Us Meet Now), Choi Woo-shik (The Divine Fury), and Park So-dam (Ode to the Goose).

 The story of this movie centers on a poor family who is try hard to keep themselves afloat with menial jobs until one day the son got a job offer as a tutor at the house of a rich and wealthy family. Eventually, the lives of the two families intertwined in a strange and twisted way and the dissimilarity between how they live their lives start to blur. Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won both wrote the script together for this movie.

Parasite has been very busy since after taking home the Palme d'Or awards at the 2019 Cannes International Film Festival. This is also the first Korean film to win the prestigious prize

At the 77th Golden Globe Awards held last January 5, "Parasite" added another first on its list when it became the first Korean film to win the Best Foreign Language Film.

On the other hand, there are rumors that there will be an English-language adaptation of Parasite in the form of a limited series on HBO. If this will push through, then Bong Joon-ho would be co-writing and producing the series along with Adam McKay, who directed the Oscar-nominated 2018 movie Vice.

All of the fans of the casts and director of this movie are keeping their fingers crossed for Parasite to extend its winning streak to the Oscars. And the Academy Awards ceremony will be held on February 9, 2020 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
