Go Hara's Brother Gives Update With Regards To The Processing Of 'Goo Hara Law'

[TW]: There will be suicide mentioned in this article.

Goo Ho In, the late Go Hara's elder brother, has released an update with regards to the processing of "Goo Hara Law."

Nov. 24 marks the first death anniversary of the late singer and actress Go Hara, and in an interview held today, Goo Ho In expressed his feeling about his younger sister's passing a year ago. "A year has passed by so quickly," he said. He also gave updates with regards to his ongoing attempt to pass the "Go Hara Law." Ho In stated that recently, the Korean Women Lawyers Association has offered their help and informed him that they believe that the "Goo Hara Law" is necessary.

He went on expressing his hopes for the "Goo Hara Law," saying, "Even if it takes a little longer, we'll try to legislate. If not now, when will it get passed?"

As previously reported, Hara's biological mother, who was absent in her children's lives since they were 9 and 7 years old, appealed for her part of the inheritance after the late celebrity's death. Following this, Goo Ho In started a petition to revise South Korea's inheritance law. This is to prevent a parent from claiming inheritance if they had neglected their parental duties. The said petition was a success garnering 100,000 signatures in 30 days. The elder brother then passed it to introduce the law in Goo Hara's name, as the Goo Hara Act. However, the bill didn't pass the 20th National Assembly, claiming that it still needs further review.

Goo Ho In also took legal action against their mother to prevent her from seeking 50% of Goo Hara's assets as an inheritance. She reportedly failed to fulfill her responsibility as a parent to her children.

On November 24, 2019, Goo Hara was found lifeless at her home in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam. Upon further investigation, her cause of death was ruled as suicide. The police discovered a note written by the late star and concluded no foul play was involved. Her funeral was held privately at Gangnam Severance Hospital with only her family and close friends. Meanwhile, her fans' separate memorial service was held on November 25-26, 2019, at The Catholic University of Korea Seoul St. Mary's Hospital in Gangnam.

After the passing of the actress, a petition was submitted to the Blue House with over 200,000 signatures requesting for harsher punishment for recording sexual acts without permission and distributing it. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the late singer and actress helped reporter Kang Kyung Yoon investigate Jung Joon-young's chatroom case before her passing.

South Korean singer and actress Goo Hara was born on Jan. 3, 1991, and died on Nov. 24, 2019. She is famously known as Hara. The late celebrity was a member of the South Korean girl group Kara and starred in television dramas, including City Hunter (2011).
