South Korea produces unique content, from rom-coms and thrillers to fan-favorite zombie series. However, there are also K-dramas that are based on British TV series.

These Korean adaptations tend to give the original series a new twist that caters to Asian viewers.

With that, here are 4 popular K-dramas based on British TV series.

'One Ordinary Day'

Released in November 2021, the thriller mystery K-drama is based on the hit BBC series "Criminal Justice," which stars Ben Whishaw, Maxine Peake, Alice Sykes, and more.

As for the Korean adaptation, "One Ordinary Day" featured the team-up of two talented stars.

Kim Soo Hyun took on the role of Kim Hyun Soo, an ordinary college student who gets involved in a murder case and becomes the primary suspect.

He is joined by the versatile actor Cha Seung Won who portrays lawyer Shin Joong Han, who is willing to help Hyun Soo with his case.

Interestingly, the show managed to exceed the expectation of viewers. Aside from the star-studded cast lineup, the 2021 Kdrama was also helmed by Lee Myung Woo. He is the person behind the success of notable series like "The Fiery Priest" and "Backstreet Rookie."

'The World of the Married'

Who would have thought that the blockbuster K-drama "The World of the Married" is a British remake?

Turns out that the Kim Hee Ae and Park Hae Joon led thriller romance series is based on BBC One's "Doctor Foster."

It follows the story of the vengeful doctor Ji Sun Woo (Kim Hee Ae,) whose family was torn apart after her husband Lee Tae Oh (Park Hae Joon) had an affair with a younger woman.

"The World of the Married" is also Han So Hee's claim to fame, where she played the role of the young mistress Yeo Da Kyung.

'Uncle'

Based on the British sitcom of the same name, "Uncle" stars Oh Jung Se from "It's Okay to Not Be Okay."

In the drama, he becomes a struggling musician named Wang Joon Hyuk, whose life has hit rock bottom after being victimized by a scammer. This led to a riff between his older sister Wang Joon Hee, who was played by Jeon Hye Jin.

Released in December 2021 via TV Chosun, "Uncle" gained a positive response from the viewers, which led the K-drama to reach its highest viewership rating of 9.3% nationwide.

 'Mistress'

Last on the list of K-drama remakes based on British TV series is OCN's "Mistress."

Based on the 2008 series of the same name, the thriller mystery romance drama follows the story of four women making their way through life with their scandalous relationships.

"Mistress" features lead stars Han Ga In, Choi Hee Seo, Gu Jae Yi, and "Hospital Playlist" actress Shin Hyun Bin.
