Lee Joo Young Reveals What It's Like Working With ‘Broker’ Director, Bae Doona
Lee Joo Young dishes out her experience working with the renowned Japanese filmmaker Koreeda Hirokazu and award-winning actress Bae Doona for the movie "Broker."
The 30-year-old actress is heading to France to attend the Cannes Film Festival and join other lead stars IU, Song Kang Ho, and Kang Dong Won.
The upcoming film was invited to the 75th Cannes Film Festival, and three other Korean films as "Broker" was selected as one of the competitors for the category Palme d'Or.
However, before she heads to the prestigious ceremony, the actress graced 1st look magazine as she shared her thoughts about the forthcoming film.
Lee Joo Young Praises 'Broker' Director Koreeda Hirokazu
During her interview with 1st Look, as obtained by a media outlet, the actress spills the filmmaker's unusual yet special way of directing. Lee Joo Young says that director Koreeda Hirokazu pays attention even to the slightest detail.
"What's special is that on set, directors usually watch the actors' performances on monitors, but Director Hirokazu Koreeda looked at the faces of the actors without looking at the monitors," she said.

The "Broker" star added that filming the movie was an overall "fun experience."
While the film is her first collaboration with the director, she mentioned that she and the cast naturally jived with Hirokazu Koreeda and "felt that we were reaching agreement on the scene without speaking."
Lee Joo Young Starstruck By Bae Doona
In the upcoming movie, Lee Joo Young plays Detective Lee, who works alongside senior detective Lee Soo Jin, played by Bae Doona.
They are tracking brokers who make a deal and find a new family for infants left in the baby box. Song Kang Ho and Kang Do Won took the role of Sang Hyun and Dong Soo, who aim to look for a new family for So Young's (IU) newborn baby.
As the interview continues with 1st Look, Lee Joo Young reveals what it's like working with Bae Doona. She mentioned that most of her scenes were with Bae Doona since they are both portraying detectives.
In addition to this, she confessed that filming their scenes was quite challenging because of the limited space.
"Most of the drama, I acted with Bae Doona-sunbaenim watching other characters in the car, and it was new and interesting to follow the story from the perspective of an actor and observer."
As for working with the award-winning actress, she mentioned that she "was very surprised to see Bae Doona" at first but revealed that as a sunbae or more experienced actor, she "learned a lot" with her.
In addition, she also hints at the synergy they had on the set, saying that she felt comfortable with Bae Doona and could express herself freely without being bound by anything.
"It was fun making every scene together," she added.
Lee Joo Young is best known as Lee Sung Kyung's best friend in "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" and a chef in "Itaewon Class."
Interestingly, "Broker" is her comeback film after two years since she landed a lead role in the drama sports-themed film "Baseball Girl."
