Kang Ha Neul made a surprise revelation and spoke about his casting experience in the KBS drama "When the Camellia Blooms" opposite Gong Hyo Jin.

The actor took the role of Ongsan's beloved local police officer Hwang Yong Shik, where he bagged Best Actor at the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards.

Was Hwang Yong Shik's Role in 'When the Camellia Blooms' Not for Kang Ha Neul?

However, his character has an interesting story that he shared during his appearance in KBS2's "2 Days & 1 Night Season 4."

While at the car along with the hosts and "Curtain call" co-star Ha Ji Won, Kang Ha Neul mentioned a shocking anecdote before filming the award-winning series.

He tells DinDin the story about Hwang Yong Shik's role and how the writer imagined the character.

Kang Ha Neul explained why he was not the perfect description to play the local police officer.

"If you look at what the director originally thought when writing the script, as a result, I was cast as a miss," he said as obtained by a media outlet,  adding that the description looked like a young Ma Dong Seok or "bear-like person who felt a little bubbly and heart."

Kang Ha Neul's confession caused laughter among the hosts who thought that something must have happened along the way of casting.

However, Ha Ji Won praised her co-star and said that Hwang Yong Shik's role "suits him so well."

As for Kang Ha Neul, despite being the total opposite of his character, the actor said that he had "fun filming."

Released in 2019, "When the Camellia Bloom" is among the hit K-dramas at the time.

Apart from having double-digit ratings, the KBS series also won various awards which include Daesang, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay at the 56th BaekSang Arts Awards.
