Kim Da Mi's Upcoming Film 'Soulmate' Receives Flak— Here's Why

Earlier this year, Kim Da Mi surprised fans and announced her return to the big screen with her new coming of age film "Soulmate" with Jeon So Nee.

Prior to its nationwide premiere, the actress talked about the work and her filming experiences, raising tension and anticipation.

Kim Da Mi On Starring In 'Soulmate'

Kim Da Mi dished out her honest thoughts on her movie comeback, five years later after the success of "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion."

Her upcoming film "Soulmate" also stars rising actors Jeon So Nee and Byun Woo Seok. It tells the beauty of friendship of two childhood friends who experience love, disappointment and jealousy together as they grow apart.

Set in the island of Jeju, the forthcoming film guarantees a healing watching experience to fans. Because of its familiar themes, the producers are confident that "Soulmate" will become a fan-favorite among new releases.

Prior to the release of the film, Kim Da Mi shared her honest thoughts about the new project. The actress confesses that she feels awkward as it has been a while since she appeared on the silver screen.

Kim Da Mi also introduced her character Mi So, a free-spirit woman who hides an unbearable pain inside. The actress stated, "She's a cute character who tries to live a good life amidst life's demanding time."

The actress thanked Min Young Geun, the director of the movie, for her guidance throughout the filming process.

Through the work, Kim Da Mi didn't feel pressured as much as she was totally hands on when it comes to her character's emotions, wardrobe and script.

According to Kim Da Mi, she felt at ease working together with her co-stars and the production team who made the filming set fun and memorable.

Kim Da Mi Criticized For Poor Project Choices

Although she only has a short list of filmography, Kim Da Mi boasts internationally acclaimed projects.

From "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion" to "Itaewon Class" and most recently, "Our Beloved Summer," Kim Da Mi is certainly among the popular stars inside and outside South Korea.

However, this didn't stop the public from nitpicking the actress' career, saying how she poorly chooses her next projects.

Many fans believe that Kim Da Mi always plays the role of haughty characters with little to no emotions. She also receives flak for her "flat" facial expressions and acting.

Despite her works' successes, critics believe that the popularity and great reception lie on the actress' co-stars' shoulders.

In response to this, Kim Da Mi promises to meet the public with better works. She also expressed her excitement about her new film "Soulmate," which she describes as a "rollercoaster work."

Attention is tripled for Kim Da Mi and her new project, which will hit the screen on March 15!
