'Breaking Bad' To Have South Korean Remake This 2023

"Breaking Bad" is coming to South Korea this year!

On February 14, reports about a "Breaking Bad" remake circulated online after director and screenwriter Lee Chang Yeol hinted at its possibility.

It is said that the director is currently working with a newly established production company to create a high scale remake of the popular American series with a whopping four seasons.

"Breaking Bad" depicts the story of a struggling teacher who becomes a criminal to ensure his family's financial stability even after his death.

During the broadcast of the drama's five seasons, "Breaking Bad" earned a loyal cult following like "Money Heist," which previously received its own exhilarating South Korean remake.

With the caliber and production quality of South Korean productions, many fans are on board with the idea of "Breaking Bad" having its own K-Drama, so long as it doesn't change its original narrative.

However, nothing has been confirmed yet. The production crew still hasn't finalized its cast lineup, and the filming dates haven't been disclosed to the public yet so stay tuned for more updates!

'Breaking Bad' South Korean Remake Receives Mixed Reactions

While many fans are excited to see how South Korean entertainment gives its own touch to the popular American show, some viewers are not as delighted as others.

A lot of viewers expressed their honest opinions about the upcoming work on their personal social media accounts. One fan wrote, "Not every Western series needs a South Korean remake."

Many agreed to the commenter, saying that K-Drama producers should focus on their own style and color instead of dabbling with Western works, which causes some dramas to lose its South Korean touch.

Fans have also stated that there's no need to produce the work as Netflix just released "Narco-Saints" in 2022, which entails a similar plot like "Breaking Bad."

Starring Ha Jung Woo, Park Hae Soo and more, "Narco-Saints" follows the lives of entrepreneurs who get involved in a heist and turn themselves in to assist the National Intelligence Agency (NIS) in secretly fighting a notorious drug lord.

"Narco-Saints" was a quite controversial work but it received much recognition from fans and critics around the world.

If "Breaking Bad" was to be remade, fans believe that it's best to cast veteran stars like Park Hae Soo, Hwang Jung Min, Ha Jung Woo and more.
