Kim Min Gyu's 'The Heavenly Idol' Named As Lackluster Work

After a long while, Kim Min Gyu landed his newest major acting role with tvN's fantasy rom-com drama "The Heavenly Idol" with Go Bo Gyeol!

The series tells the story of a high priest who one day wakes up in the body of a male idol, who is both played by Kim Min Gyu. "The Heavenly Idol" marks the actor's first two-character role.

During its first week, Kim Min Gyu stirred buzz in the Hallyu community for his new drama. However, it wasn't all positive as he was subjected to criticisms.

Many viewers claimed that "The Heavenly Idol" is a major letdown for the actor's career, especially when it's compared to its predecessor "Business Proposal."

In 2022, Kim Min Gyu stole the spotlight as secretary Cha Sung Hoon who showed off the great chemistry with Seol In Ah. The drama gained a massive following among loyal fans.

Kim Min Gyu Stirs Buzz For 'The Heavenly Idol' Performance

"The Heavenly Idol" scored an average rating of 3% during its premiere, which is also its highest rating yet. At the moment, the series continues to plummet when it comes to its viewership ratings.

However, it's surprising that Kim Min Gyu recently received acclaim for his performance as Pontifex Lembrary and Woo Yeon Woo.

One fan commented, "The drama has an interesting plot but it's not executed well. Thankfully, Kim Min Gyu is a great actor."

Another viewer stated that the actor's flawless acting is what makes up for the drama's dullness, which they deemed to be a letdown especially that the work will mark Kim Min Gyu's final drama before enlisting to the military.

Despite scoring a low rating of 1.5%, fans are hopeful that the work will be able to pull through from its sluggish rating, thanks to Kim Min Gyu's versatility and flawless work.

In addition to that, his chemistry with Go Bo Gyeol, who also boasts unbeatable visuals, is also a factor that fans look forward to during its broadcast.

As "The Heavenly Idol" progresses, the work is expected to gradually become better that will leave every viewer breathless.
