'Queenmaker' Stirs Buzz Online Due to Its Political Theme

Netflix gears up for another interesting series, "Queenmaker" to release this April. However, just a few days before it premieres, the drama is already creating a buzz online due to its political theme and cast. 

In preparation for its release, Netflix Korea dropped "Queenmaker's" poster online, describing it as a political series with an imaginative framing, established by a genius image maker who has lived like a weed like a human rights lawyer.

The show consists of eleven episodes, it tells the journey of Hwang Do Hee (Kim Hee Ae) (Moon So Ri), a top executive of a big corporation, and Oh Kyung Sook, a labor rights lawyer. 

Based on the synopsis provided, Oh Kyung Sook decides to run for the Seoul mayoral election after she catches Hwang Do Hee's attention while fighting against the corporation that he works for.

Apart from the poster, the released trailer video, highlights the intense race for the 39th Seoul election. Hwang Do Hee refuses to elect someone else as mayor, he encourages Oh Kyung Soo to run for the mayoral race to fix the power that the Eun Sung Group holds.

However, despite the series' promising plot and top-notch actors and actresses, it still received backlash from the public. People left negative comments ahead of the drama's upcoming release. 

Some commented, "Why is Netflix investing in writers and PDs who want to look good in the political realm?" 

"Isn't this a political spec for human rights lawyers?"

One online user wrote, "Don't create content like this when it's clear how much Koreans hate politicians."

Another commenter pointed out that lead stars Kim Hee Ae and Moon So Ri's roles exhibit feminism. 

Meanwhile, "Queenmaker" is set to release on Netflix starting April 14. Viewers will see more familiar faces in the series like Ryu Soo Young, Seo Yi Sook, Jin Kyung, Kim Tae Hoon, Ok Ja Yeon, Yoon Ji Hye, Lee Kyoung Young, and Jo Won Hee.
