In the Hallyu scene, competitiveness can be seen in various aspects of the industry. Among actors, it's crucial to keep one's name buzzing.

A comeback drama with a great storyline and flawless cast ensemble will also help cement one's name in the acting scene. But what happens when everything fails?

Here are four K-Drama stars whose works flopped in the first half of 2023. Keep on reading to know more.

Kim Min Gyu

After the huge success of the rom-com "Business Proposal," Kim Min Gyu bagged his newest lead acting role in early 2023.

Fans tuned into the actor whose new-found success kept every Hallyu fan on their toes. In "The Heavenly Idol," Kim Min Gyu played the role of a priest who one day wakes up in the body of an idol.

Despite its quirky premise, the drama fell short in terms of creativity, execution and performance, which disappointed many fans.

Kim Min Gyu's acting was also criticized after he tried to pull off a horribly written script. Because of this, the drama struggled to recover from its stagnant rating of 1%.

Im Soo Hyang

Earlier this 2023, Im Soo Hyang coupled with Kim Jung Hyun in the fantasy romance drama "Kokdu: Season of Deity."

When the drama was announced, many fans were hyped up for the actors' return. Unfortunately, the series was entangled in a series of controversy even before it made its debut.

Im Soo Hyang was also heavily criticized for her performance for "lacking flexibility" in conveying her character's hardships and emotions. As a result, fans around the world named "Kokdu: Season of Deity" as the actress' flopped drama.

Park Hyung Sik

Known for his versatility, Park Hyung Sik recently returned to the television screen with the historical romance series "Our Blooming Youth."

Unfortunately, the work didn't live up to the hype. In fact, Park Hyung Sik's credibility as an actor was also questioned as he "didn't fit" the role of a Crown Prince.

While his avid fans were disappointed, some pointed fingers at the script, which was not polished enough to enjoy massive success.

Jang Na Ra

Jang Na Ra's return to the limelight after her marriage was the most anticipated comeback this year.

She recently made her much anticipated return with "Family: The Unbreakable Bond" with Jang Hyuk whom Jang Na Ra partnered up with in many works before.

Because of the two veteran stars' chemistry, fans' expectations were through the roof. Sadly, the work failed to satisfy the viewers due to its off-beat comedy and inappropriate details in the script.
