KATSEYE's Megan Comes Out as Bisexual, Joining Lara as Openly

Megan Skiendiel, member of global girl group KATSEYE, publicly came out as bisexual during a live broadcast on Weverse, in a historic moment for representation in the world of K-pop. She made the announcement weeks after member Lara Raj came out as queer in March.

During a celebratory interaction in honor of Pride Month, Lara cheered Megan on:

"Guys, I'm coming out, I'm bisexual," Megan announced.
Both jumped in celebration, with Lara adding, "Everyone say, we love bisexuals!"

Megan's announcement followed an earlier strong hint in a live chat and marked a milestone for queer visibility in K‑pop.

Double Representation: A First in K‑pop

With two openly queer members, KATSEYE is now one of the very few active K‑pop groups to feature multiple LGBTQ+ idols. Lara, who came out in March, received the LA LGBT Center's Blooming Impact Award, calling her identity a lifelong journey. Megan acknowledged Lara's public coming-out as encouragement for her own.

Megan and Lara aren't just bandmates—they're sounding boards. During the livestream, Lara told Megan she'd be the second recipient of the Blooming Impact Award—coming from a queer sibling in the group.

In an article about the annoucement, Teen Vogue highlighted Megan's personal journey, noting her anxiety over public perception and ongoing self-discovery through fashion and self-expression.

Why It Matters

Visibility in K‑pop remains rare. Fans around the world responded with viral support; one X user wrote:

"In a world where homophobia is on the rise, seeing two queer girls happy and excited about their queerness is genuinely heartwarming."

Their openness comes amid a broader global shift—following idols like Holland, Jiae, Bain, and now two from KATSEYE—spotlighting LGBTQ+ representation in South Korea's conservative entertainment industry.
