South Korean actress Shim Eun-woo made an emotional return to the public eye after being officially cleared of school bullying accusations that forced her into a five-year hiatus from the entertainment industry.

The 31-year-old star, known for her breakout role in the 2020 hit drama The World of the Married, appeared in a YouTube video released Friday titled "It's been 5 years."
In the video, Shim addressed the years-long controversy that had derailed her career just as it was beginning to gain momentum.
"I haven't had much acting work lately," she said, visibly holding back tears. "I took a break from work for about five years after facing school bullying accusations. After a long legal battle, I was officially proven innocent — it was not school violence."
Shim first came under fire in March 2021 when an individual claiming to be a former middle school classmate accused her of verbal abuse and ostracism.
As a result, the rumors about it spread immediately online, and the actress suspended all activities and made a public apology. At the time, she had just landed her first significant lead role.
However, at the time her legal team announced in March 2025, no evidence of impropriety was found, and she was cleared of any allegations.
In Friday's video, Shim reflected on the time she spent away from acting. "It was a very hard time. But I also learned what real rest is," she said. "I reflected on myself a lot.
As I looked back, I saw the things I was lacking, and although it was a difficult time, I endured it well and tried to maintain my daily life."
The actress also revealed that during her hiatus, she became a certified yoga instructor and has quietly worked in wellness-related fields.
Despite her absence from the screen, she expressed gratitude to fans who continued to support her and remembered her performance in The World of the Married.
Shim noted that she had only received one acting audition during the past five years but was now hopeful about restarting her career.
"I'll work hard to return the love and support I've received," she said.
Shim's return video has sparked an outpouring of support on social media, with many fans expressing relief and admiration for her resilience.
The footage marks her first public appearance since the scandal and signals a possible fresh start in an industry where comebacks can be rare after controversy.
"I hope to meet you again through good work," she said, ending the video with a bow.
