MBC Explains World Cup Controversy Involving “Infinity Challenge”

MBC clarifies their alleged participation in the World Cup controversy involving a Korean media personnel.

It has been reported that a Korean broadcast employee was arrested for the misuse of issued field passes by FIFA. This report coincided with the June 21 broadcast of the variety program "Infinity Challenge," where comedian Noh Hong Chul borrowed a pass from announcer Lee Jae Eun, leading viewers to speculate about his involvement in the issue.

On June 22, MBC released a press statement, saying, "We want to clarify that the reports regarding a Korean staff's misuse of their ID at the World Cup had nothing to do with MBC."

They explained, "During the filming of 'Infinity Challenge,' Noh Hong Chul possessed an AD card (autograph document card), a field card which allows him to enter the venue, an official broadcast vest, and an official field card for Game 16 (Korea vs. Russia), making it possible to film him inside the venue."

"In the broadcast, the pass given to him by the announcer was a pitch side pass, to gain access to the designated broadcast area which MBC paid for. Both Noh Hong Chul and Lee Jae Eun were in possession of the AD card and field card, which allows them to film at the venue," they concluded.

The cast of "Infinity Challenge" flew to Brazil to lead the Korean World Cup supporters during the game against Russia.
