Jang Geun Suk is the prettiest man in the world. No, it hasn't been put to a vote. It's just that he recently signed on to appear in a new drama, "Pretty Man."

The actor-turned-singer has already modeled for men's cosmetics based on his flower-boy good looks so it's only natural that he would be the ideal candidate for playing a man with what the drama production company describes as "the prettiest face in the world."

The producers at Group8, which produced the drama mega-hits "Boys Over Flowers" and "Goong," had Jang Geun Suk in mind from the earliest planning stages of the project.

"We are working hard with Jang Geun Suk, discussing the character and the drama to increase the overall quality of the project," said a Group8 representative.

In the drama, Jang Geun Suk plays Dokko Ma Te, an attractive man who finds love. While his pretty face will naturally help him attract love, there's no telling whether it will help him keep it.

The drama's story is based on the popular manga written by Choi Kye Young and will be adapted by Yoo Young Ah, who wrote the popular film, "Miracle in Cell No. 7."

According to Jang Geun Suk's agency, he decided on the role because he liked the character. It will be his first drama role since 2012, when he co-starred with Yoona in "Love Rain."

Jang Geun Suk has been acting since he was only 10 years old, first appearing in a sitcom called "Selling Happiness. He is best known for his role as the arrogant bandleader Hwang Tae Kang in "You're Beautiful," with co-stars Lee Hong Ki, Jung Yong Hwa, Park Shin Hye and Uee. He also played the carefree musician Kang Mu Gyul in "Mary Stayed Out All Night" with Moon Geun Young.

During the last year, the Hallyu star has been focusing primarily on his music, touring with Team H, his band with Big Brother. His music is very popular in Japan, with his last album debuting at No. 1 on the Oricon daily singles chart. He is also the first male international solo artist to reach the top of both the Oricon daily and weekly charts.

As yet, the new drama has not found a broadcast company but casting is underway and the drama is expected to air by the end of the year.
