Chu Young Woo welcomes 2024 as a highly regarded actor after receiving major recognition at the 2023 KBS Drama Awards.

However, he's also been the subject of criticisms following his win. Here's what happened. Read on to know more.

Chu Young Woo Under Fire For Denying BL Works

On December 31, 2023, the artists and works that grace prime time in the past year received much-deserved recognition at the 2023 KBS Drama Awards.

Chu Young Woo, who boasted his versatility and improved acting in "Oasis," received a nod as Best New Actor of the year, much to the viewers' delight.

The actor is slowly making a name for himself in the competitive scene of the film industry. With this great recognition, Chu Young Woo is more than grateful for everyone who supported him.

However, the actor is also receiving negative reactions from the public after delivering his acceptance speech, accusing him of being "queerphobic."

Chu Young Woo listed down the works he had done in the past year, and thanked every viewer that watched the work without fail. Sadly, the actor omitted to mention "You Make Me Dance."

Chu Young Woo Accused of Queerphobia

To recall, the actor debuted on terrestrial television with "You Make Me Dance," a BL (boys' love) drama in 2021.

In the same year, he was able to work with Krystal Jung and Jung Jinyoung in the "Police University" after gaining popularity, opening doors of opportunities and more.

Because of this, many were disappointed with Chu Young Woo. One fan commented, "It's disgusting when an actor who debuted in a BL drama pretends that he never did. It makes me sick."

"It only reveals his queerphobia," replied a fan. Chu Young Woo was also compared to ZEROBASEONE Kim Ji Woong who proudly introduced himself as a "former BL actor."

Some fans give Chu Young Woo the benefit of the doubt as it must be an "honest mistake," and that he must have forgotten to mention his debut drama due to nervousness.

While this polarized the public opinion, it's no doubt that Chu Young Woo did an excellent job in portraying his acting roles in every drama he stars in including the BL work "You Make Me Dance."

On the other hand, Chu Young Woo is preparing for his forthcoming K-dramas "Mrs. Ok," "Mercy For None" and "The Trauma Code: Heroes On Call," which will all air some time this year.
