Kim Yong Gun, a veteran actor from South Korea, has talked about how his family, including his oldest son Ha Jung Woo, reacted to the surprise addition of a new baby when he was in his mid-70s. The comments have brought back interest in the actor's personal life and his thoughts on getting older, being a dad, and getting help from his family.

On the April 6 episode of tvN STORY's "Table Tales," host Lee Young Ja discussed a clip that had already aired in which Kim spent time with his young grandson. The conversation shifted to Kim's youngest child, born when he was 75 years old.
In an honest answer, Kim said that he is actively involved in raising his youngest son. He said, "I actually have another child to play with," referring to the boy.
The actor thought about how challenging it is to be a parent later in life while talking about raising his older sons, actors Ha Jung Woo and Cha Hyun Woo.
He talked about how hard it is on his body to take care of a young child at his age. "Now I'm the one running after him. It's hard to keep up and play together... I had a child so late in life, and at first, it was very difficult."
Kim also talked about how his older sons reacted, including what Ha Jung Woo thinks of his much younger half-brother. Kim said that both of his sons were understanding and supportive.

He told them what they said to help. "My eldest and second sons told me, 'Father, think of it as a blessing.' That gave me strength. After all, what did the child do wrong?"
The actor stressed how their perspective helped him accept what had happened and move on in a good way. Koreaboo's coverage highlighted the family's support, noting that Kim's emotional adjustment significantly depended on the sons' reactions.
Kim also said that he wanted to spend as much time as possible with his youngest child because of his age. Reports from Xportsnews also talked about how he felt about time and being a father.
He talked about how his priorities have changed. "I want to see him as much as I can, even if it's just one more day. So now I even go to kids' cafés. Before, I worried about people whispering or giving me negative looks."
He went on to talk about how he feels about how people see him and how much time he spends with his family. "But now I just wish I could spend more time with him. That's how I feel. I think I don't have much time left. Whenever I can, I video call him, or I wait for him after daycare. That makes me happy."
In 2021, it came out that Kim had a child with a partner who was 39 years younger than him. This was the first time people knew about Kim's late fatherhood.
Initially, the situation garnered significant public attention and resulted in a legal dispute, which eventually reached a resolution. Later, Kim recognized the child and put him on his family's registry.
